Artistic director of Al-Talia Theater Studio. BA in Philosophy, Cairo University (Class of 1979). By critical consensus, one of Egypt's most scenography-savvy stage directors. Winner of the Best Director Award in the 1996 Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theater for his and dramaturg Sameh Mahran's adaptation of Yehia Al-Taher Abdalla's novel Al-Tawq Wal Eswera ("The Collar and the Bracelet"). His subsequent work evinces a penchant for adaptations of literary works, especially those dealing with the dialectic relation between heritage and modernity.
